About Us
Joint Efforts to Save the Environment (JESE), is a national Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) established in 1993 with a desire to increase household food security, through sustainable agricultural production and livelihood improvement amongst the rural communities. Other JESE thematic areas of focus include Natural Resources Management, Governance and Energy, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Youth Skills Development. Our work spans 2 decades, operating in Western Uganda, Albertine region, and in Northern Uganda.

Care International in Uganda in partnership Joint Effort to Save the Environment (JESE) with funding from Starbucks Foundation will implement a 2 years gender transformative project “Scaling Up FFBS in Coffee Communities” aimed to increase agricultural productivity, facilitate sustainable livelihoods, access to inclusive markets, increase voice and leadership capacities of women to advocate for gender equal outcomes in agricultural market systems for 4,000 small holder women farmers and their households in Kyenjojo and Rubirizi Districts.

Job Summary
Provide the day to day oversight of the project implementation in Kyenjojo and Rubirizi Districts including planning, execution and monitoring of field activities, provide training and technical advisory services to farmers for improved production and agro based enterprise development, participate in stakeholder meetings and ensure that projects adhere to frameworks.

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Provide training and technical advisory services to farmers and farmer institutions in appropriate agricultural production methods, household food security and marketing.
  2. Develop community strategies and approaches that empower and ensure involvement of the target program beneficiaries in planning, project execution, monitoring and reporting.
  3. Develop the capacities of the target beneficiaries to engage into productive businesses in agriculture, Nutrition and Health
  4. Monitor and contribute to analysis of evolving seasonal issues affecting production, food security, livelihoods, and project performance
  5. Promotion of sustainable food systems and agroecological practices for improved ecosystems management, farm resilience and livelihoods.
  6. Document key advocacy issues, best practices and beneficiary case studies.
  7. Develop concept papers and proposals to provide input to the fundraising and resource mobilization strategy
  8. Liaise with local government institutions and technical staff to plan and implement smart agriculture and climatic resilient actions.
  9. Prepare operational plans, budgets, periodic quality assurance and project progress reports
  10. Mainstream gender into project activities and ensure high level participation and women and girls in all project activities.
  11. Attend stakeholder meetings at district and community levels
  12. Prepare periodic quality project progress reports
  13. Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Coordinator

Education Requirement
A University Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agriculture Land use and Management or Rural Innovations from a recognized Institution.

Any other additional qualification in community development or related fields is an added advantage.

Working Experience
The candidate should possess not less than two years of relevant working experience preferably with an NGO or the Private sector in the field of agriculture, agribusiness and enterprise development and community development approaches. Knowledge of Farmer Field and Business School model, Value chain development, farming as a business, and understanding of gender dynamics in agriculture sector is paramount. S/he should possess excellent documentation, communication and report writing skills. Fluency in English; knowledge of other languages spoken in the target areas (Kyenjojo and Rubirizi) is considered an asset.
