UGANDAN CHARITY WINS GLOBAL SANITATION AWARD

A Ugandan charity organization has received global recognition for promoting sanitation among school going children and advocating for sustainable access to affordable hygiene facilities in rural communities.Joint Effort to Save the Environment based in Kabarole district received the 2014 Stars Impact Award at a function held in London last week
The Star Impact Awards recognize and award effective,well managed local organizations working to improve child health,education,water sanitation and hygiene in countries with the highest mortality rate of children under the age of five years in Africa and the Middle East. JESE which was one of the 18 countries worldwide that were rewarded,received a prize package worth$20,000(shs56.8million) in consultancy. Mr.Godfrey Rugumayo,the WASH programs manager,told daily monitor over the weekend that the prize is further proof of their success in promoting sanitation and hygiene in schools and rural communities. He said the recognition was based on their 2012 report,indicating that the organisation improved access to safe water for more than 12,000 children in 28 primary schools,and sanitation for more than 9,000 pupils in 10 primary schools.
